31st August 1747

Ordered, that Bartholomew Francis be appointed to succeed Mr James Watson deceased as door Keeper to the Post Master General, & that the said Mr. Francis do enter into a Bond with two sufficient surities in the penalty of five Hundred Pounds for his good behaviour in the said employment.

That Mr John Ismay do succeed the said Mr. Francis as the Supernumerary Clerk in the Secretary’s office, and be allowed for his service & attendance after the rate of three shillings/day.

And that Mr Richard Robinson Junior Clerk in the Secretary’s office, in consideration of the smallness of his salary, being only thirty pounds / annum do enjoy from and after the 29th of September 1947 the Profits & Prerequisites arising from Post Warrants and the Sealing of Commissions & Deputations; and that he also allowed for his care of the Stationary wares & keeping the accounts thereof, a salary of tens pounds/annum to Commence at Michaelmas next.

Ordered, that Anthony Todd Esq., be appointed Secretary of the Foreign Department of this Office, in the Stead of Mr John Leyburn deceased, & to commence from Christmas last:-

That Mr Charles Jackson be appointed to succeed the said Mr. Todd, in the foreign office, in the capacity of Junior Clerk there, at 40 / annum & also as Junior Clerk to the secretary of this office at 30 / annum, to commence also from Christmas last.

That Mr John Ismay, the Supernumerary Clerk in the Secretary’s Office, be preferred to the second Clerkship in the said office, in the stead of Mr. Todd promoted, as aforesaid: and that Mr Richard Robinson be appointed to succeed the said Mr Ismay as a Supernumerary Clerk & that the usual Prerequisites arising in the said office from  {?} & the allowances for keeping the Stationary wares, as also the Post warrants there, be divided between the said Messrs Ismay & Robinson in the following Proportion viz; Two thirds of the gross amounts of them to Mr.
