Sydney – A warrant has been issued by the Melbourne Bench for the arrest of Cyril Ismay, charged with embezzling, as a servant, the sum of  £80, the property of Sali Cleve, between the 5th and 22nd instant. Offender is 22 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high, light hair inclined to sandy, cleaned shaved, thin build, thin features, generally wears a dark sac suit, and black hard felt hat. Last seen in Melbourne on the 22nd instant.

Apprehensions etc.,

John Henry Merritt and Cyril Ismay, charged on warrant with a breach of the Betting Houses Suppression Act, have been arrested by Senior-constable Saunhy, Constables Gibson and Alexander, Broken Hill police. Merritt fined £5 and costs £6 3s or one month gaol. Moiety of fine to Police Reward Fund. Notice of appeal given. Ismay sentenced to one month gaol; sentence suspended until the 17th September. Notice of appeal given. Ismay is identical with the offender same name, vide Victoria Police gazette – see Prisoners Discharge week ending 14th January 1899

Missing from his home, Premier street, Marrickville, since the 28th ultimo, John William Ismay, 15 years of age, medium height and build, dark hair and complexion; dress in gray jacket and trousers, and white straw hat with black band; may be in company of a boy named Maidley. Supposed to have gone to work at some dairy about Canterbury or Belmore

Marrickville. – Description of a man who, on the 16th instant, obtained goods and money to the amount of £3 from James E Ismay, grocer, Illawarra Road, Marrickville, by means of a forged cheque, signed, “R.G. Brereton.” on the Bank of New South Wales, Pitt street Branch. He is 35 to 40 years of age, 5 feet 10 inches high, medium build, pale complexion, brown moustache, beard cut to a point; dress in fawn tweed sac suit, and brown soft felt hat, Respectable appearance, Gave the name of McManus.

Apprehension etc.,

Harriet Wallace alias Cleave and Annie Best, charge on warrant with unlawfully using an istrumet on Lily Ismay, on the 11th Ultimo, with intent to procure abortion, and Wallace, further charged in company with Maud Kenny and George Augustus Addison, with unlawfully using an instrument on the same woman, on the 12th idem, have been arrested by Senior sergeant Brennan, constables Goggins, Kennedy, Pether, Pattinson, and Larkin, Sydney Police. Wallace committed suicide when arrested at her residence on the 27th December last, The others committed for trial at Quarter Sessions. Bail allowed. Wallace is identical with prisoner released on ticket of leave, same name (vide Police Gazette, 1900 page 336).

Annie Best, Maud Kenny and George Augustus Addison after several court postponements were eventual tried and acquitted in 4th June 1907 Sydney Q.S.

John Phillip Conway (17), Harold Ismay (16), and Robert Elliott (14 1/2 ), charged with uttering a counterfeit half-sovereign to Lillian Cochran, have been arrested by Constable C. Leonard, Sydney Police. Conway and Ismay committed for trial at Quarter Sessions: Elliott discharge on twelve months probation

First Offenders Discharge under the Crimes Act of 1900

The following offenders have been released under the provisions of the above act:-

Harold Ismay (16) and John Phillip Conway (17), tried at Sydney Quarter Sessions on 7th December, 1910 uttering a counterfeit coin; sentence, six months’ hard labour each. To be of good behaviour fro twelve months (vide Police Gazette, 1910, page 419)

Sydney. – A warrant had been issued by the Children’s Court Bench, Sydney, for the arrest of J.H. Ismay, charged with failing to attend compulsory drill. He is 16 years of age, 5 feet 6 inches high, thin build, stooped shoulders, sloughing gait,, brown hair, blue eyes, broad forehead, very bad teeth, small ears, long fingers; dressed in a brown suit, narrow stripe through material, brown soft felt hat and black boots; his parents reside at Auburn.

Was last seen in Melbourne on the 22nd instant. May go to one of the other colonies. Arrest desirable

Jacob Dovale is charged, on warrant, with endeavouring to impose on Mrs. M. Ismay, 24 Carlisle Street, St. Kilda, at St Kilda, on the 26th ult. Description: - 55 years of age, 5 feet 7¼ inches high, well built, 11½ stone weight, sallow complexion, black and grey hair, black and grey moustache only, has two warts on the left side of neck; wore a black suit and a black boxer hat. Identical with Jacob Dovale, long-sentence photo 3863. – 0.576. 19th January 1899.
